Christmas and New Year Gifts for Kids in India: What to Buy

Gifts by budget and age for December, from Secret Santa under ₹300 to one big present, plus when to order. Honest prices from ₹159.

December in India is not one gift. It is a cousin’s gift, a classmate’s Secret Santa, a school party, and two weeks of holiday that need filling, and each is a different shopping decision.

That is why Christmas shopping goes wrong. Most people buy one big present, then discover they needed six small ones, and finish on a marketplace at midnight paying for delivery.

Shopping for Christmas gifts for kids in India is easier if you work by situation and budget instead of by product.

The short answer

If you buy one gift, buy for the age, not the price tag. The Chu Chu 12-piece bath set at ₹349 for a baby or toddler. The LCD writing tablet at ₹399 for a three- to five-year-old. The doctor’s kit at ₹699 for 3 and up, the 42-piece magnetic set at ₹749 for 6–9. For classmates and Secret Santa, the ₹159 Candy Flower Twister or the ₹189 alphabet board, bought eight at a time. Order in the first half of December and you are comfortable.

Why December is a different kind of gifting

A birthday is one occasion with one child. December is a season with several: the school exchange, the cousins who visit, the party, the New Year list.

The budgets are small and repeated. Nobody spends ₹1,200 eight times for a classroom. The parent who plans buys one good small thing in bulk, and one larger present for their own child.

Children are also receiving things from everyone else in December, so a duplicate is not a gift, it is a return.

And the school holiday means two weeks of “I’m bored” before the New Year, which makes one open-ended toy worth more than three that need an adult to set up.

Christmas gifts for kids in India, by budget

Under ₹300: Secret Santa and classmates

Below ₹300, buy a small thing that is good rather than a big thing that is cheap. Two that hold up.

The Candy Flower Twister at ₹159 is a stack of discs that folds and spreads in the hand. No batteries, no pieces to lose, and it fits in a Secret Santa box. It is rated 4–6, so it is not a toddler gift.

The Wooden Alphabet Puzzle Board at ₹189 is the safest classroom gift on our shelf. It suits a 2–4 year old, it cannot break, and no parent will mind it in the house.

Eight of either sorts out a classroom.

₹300–₹750: the main present

This is the band where most real presents sit, so match it to the age.

For a baby or toddler, the Chu Chu 12-piece bath set at ₹349 gets used every bath for a year.

For 3–5, the 12-inch LCD writing tablet at ₹399 gives drawing without a pile of paper.

For 3 and up, the Electric Bubble Gun at ₹449 is the party gift: fifteen streams of bubbles, a light, and a bottle of solution in the box.

The TOYBOY Beauty 8pc Doctor’s Kit at ₹699 is the present that gets played with for months rather than days. Eight tools in a carry case, including a stethoscope that plays a heartbeat. Marked 3 and up, and it needs batteries, so buy them at the same time.

₹1,000 and up: one big thing

Above ₹1,000, buy one thing that will actually be used indoors in December rather than something that needs a garden and a dry afternoon.

The Mini Race RC Car at ₹1,199 is our pick. A press-and-go grip remote that a three-year-old can work, and traffic cones in the box for a living-room track. It is rated for ages 3 and up.

The 42-piece magnetic sticks set at ₹749 sits just under this line and is the better purchase for a 6–9 year old who already has a car.

What to skip

Battery toys without batteries. Check the box before you wrap it. A toy that does not switch on at 8am on Christmas morning is a small tragedy with a long memory.

Anything with small parts for a child under three. The age warning is not a suggestion. A two-hundred-piece set for a two-year-old is a gift for the parent, who spends Boxing Day picking pieces off the floor.

Character toys from a show they do not watch. If the child is not already reciting the songs, the toy is a stranger with a familiar face.

A second screen. If the house already has a tablet the child uses, another one is not gifting, it is escalation.

The biggest box on the shelf. Size sells to grandparents. A plastic set with a hundred parts looks like more present than a ₹399 tablet, and gets played with once.

When to order

Order in the first half of December. After that, couriers get busy and every delivery in the country competes with every other.

For a school Secret Santa, work backwards from the exchange date, usually mid-December, and order in the first week if you can.

Cash on delivery is available if you are sending a gift to family in another city.

We will not promise a delivery date in December. Couriers are unpredictable that month, and a broken promise is worse than no promise.

Quick questions

What is a good Secret Santa gift under ₹300?

The Candy Flower Twister at ₹159, because it is small, needs nothing and suits most children over four. The wooden alphabet board at ₹189 is safer if you do not know the age. Both wrap in minutes, and eight of the twister comes to ₹1,272.

Is ₹500 enough for a Christmas gift?

Yes, for a child under six. The LCD tablet at ₹399 and the bubble gun at ₹449 are proper presents, not tokens. Above ₹500 the gains are small until you are buying the one big present. The classroom band is lower, around ₹200.

When should I order Christmas gifts in India?

The first half of December, and the first week for anything going to a school. Shipping volumes rise through the month, so early is the only protection. We do not promise specific dates at any point, and the earlier you order the calmer the month gets.

What do you buy a child who has everything?

Something open-ended. Magnetic sticks, a writing tablet or a puzzle board get used and worn out rather than displayed. Avoid adding another boxed set to a pile the child has stopped opening. If you can, ask the parent what the child already uses daily.

Do you deliver before Christmas?

We ship through the usual couriers and do not guarantee a date. Orders placed in the first half of December will almost always arrive in time, but we will not put a promise on the site that the delivery network cannot keep.

Where to go next

If you are buying eight of the same thing, our return gifts page is set up for exactly that, and the 3–6 year old shelf holds most of the good main presents. Order early. Two per cent of every order goes to a child in need.
